Nigeria joined the rest of the world on Wednesday in commemoration of the World Post Day.
World Post Day is celebrated worldwide on every October 9 each year, with the purpose of bringing awareness to the Post’s role in the everyday lives of people and businesses, as well as its contribution to global social and economic development.
Among the programmes highlighted for this year’s celebration was to create a broader awareness of the Post’s role and new services and activities renders by the NIPOST to the public.
Speaking at the reception organized for the NIPOST customers and the general public to commemorate the World Post Day at its Abuja Zonal Office, the Zonal Manager of the Nigerian Postal Service, A. D. Usman, said NIPOST has just introduced some services recently that are actually designed for convenience, reliability, economy and time sensitivity with a view to meeting the needs of Nigerians and other customers at large.
Mr. Usman maintained that Nigerian Postal Service has remained significant for the distribution of goods bought on Internet stores and other relative businesses.
He however explained that with introduction of ICT into the day to day activities at the NIPOST, the operations have been enhanced through automation of mail processing, tracking and tracing of postal items within and outside the NIPOST postal corridor.
He further emphasized on the achievements of the NIPOST which includes exploring modern technology to introduce some digital products such as the Address Verification System (AVS), Digital Address System (DAS) and Electronic Money Transfer called “Postranfer”.
