Two hundred and sixty five Nigerians on Wednesday night arrived the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, via an Emirate Airline. The aircraft that brought them touched down at the airport at 7.40 p.m.
They had earlier been scheduled to arrive the airport at 3.00 p.m. but due to one of the passengers who went into labour, the plane had to make a U-turn to UAE.
The Emirates flight EK783, a Boeing 777-300 with registration A6-EGO left Dubai for Lagos at around 10 am but had to return because of the incident and restart the journey.
Meanwhile, Nigerian airlines joined their voice in the condemnation of the Federal Government’s decision to patronize foreign airlines for the evacuation of Nigerians abroad, describing the action as disappointing, especially after it had said earlier that it would engage two domestic airlines to carry out the evacuation exercise.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, confirmed their arrival.
Nigerian government had announced that a woman, Kafayat Amusan put to bed 30 minutes after departure, which resulted in the plane returning back to Dubai after take off. She is on admission at a hospital in Dubai. The statement by NIDCOM further stated the Nigerian Ambassador in Dubai, Rimi and staff of the Embassy are in touch with the mother and child who are in good condition.
