APPEAL COURT AFFIRMS REINSTATEMENT OF SACKED COUNCILMEN AND COUNCILLORS IN IMO STATE BY GOV. EMEKA IHEDIOHA

The Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri, the Imo State capital, has today stayed action on the 1st of July, 2020 judgment of the Federal High court in Owerri, ordering the reinstatement the sacked Local Government Chairmen and Councillors in Imo State.

The elected local government chairmen and Councillors, were sacked through the Imo State House of Assembly, by the Emeka Ihedioha administration.

Hope Uzodinma, upon sacking Ihedioha through a SupremeCourt ruling, maintained their sack.

The sacked local government chairmen and Councillors, had then approached an Owerri High Court and on the 1st of July, had gotten a favourable ruling, ordering Uzodinma to reinstate them.

Uzodinma had appealed the judgment, through his faction of the APC but by it’s ruling today, the Appeal Court has yet again, upheld the judgment of the lower court.

The government is yet to react to the latest verdict. Uche Nwosu, son inlaw to Rochas Okorocha, had urged Uzodinma not to appeal the judgement of the High Court, pointing out that the councilmen were still APC members.

The ruling party is factioned in the state, with Hope Uzodinma backing the Nlemigbo faction, and Rochas Okorocha backing the Daniel Nwafor faction.

The councilmen were elected under Okorocha and are believed to be loyal to him.
