Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) has been declared the winner of the Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary, ahead of the Oct. 10 election in the state.
In the indirect primary which held inside the main auditorium of the International Culture and Event Center, Akure, he polled 888 votes as against his main contender and incumbent Deputy Governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi, who scored 657. Eddy Olafeso came third in the keenly contested primary election.
Jegede, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria , is a former commissioner for justice and Anthony General of the state during the eight years administration of former gov. Olusegun Mimiko.
Announcing the results at about 12:45 am on Thursday at the venue in Akure the Chairman of the Election Committee, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, the executive governor of Enugu State announced that Jegede, scored 888 votes.
“I now announce that Jegede Eyitayo, having scored the highest vote cast is here by declared winner “.
He thanked all the stakeholders especially the aspirants for displaying maturity during the exercise.
“The exercise was peaceful, free and fair, and was conducted in accordance with the guidelines of our great party”.
“I sincerely appreciate all party members and delegates for the success of the exercise. We urge all aspirants to close ranks and work for the victory of our great party in the forthcoming governorship election “.
Speaking immediately after being declared the winner and presented the certificate, Eyitayo Jegede described the election as a family contest with no victor and no vanquished.
“We are all winners in Ondo State and I dedicate this victory to all people of the state and my co-aspirants who have shown great spirit of sportsmanship “.
“By this victory, it would serve as notice on APC that an end has come. By the grace of God, our people and support of my co-aspirants, we will take over Ondo State come October ” he said.
Other results announced by the Election Committee Chairman as follows :
Okunomo Banji 90 votes, Bode Ayorinde 95 votes, Sen. Boluwaji Kunlere 33 votes, Sen. Olushola Ebiseni 29 votes and Godday Erewa 14 votes.
Also declared after the exercise, the Chairman said that 2122 delegates were registered for the exercise, 2050 delegates were accredited and a total number of 2045 voters recorded
A total number of valid votes cast was 1981 while a total number of invalid votes was 64.
